Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba says he will run for reelection in 2025

Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba is planning to run for re-election in 2025.

Lumumba made the announcement after taking questions from reporters during a Monday press conference at Jackson’s City Hall.

“As it stands today, it is certainly my intent to run again,” Lumumba said. “If anything changes with that, I’ll notify you.”

Lumumba also denied claims that he has raised $500,000 to $1.5 million for his campaign so far.

If re-elected in 2025, Lumumba would serve his third term as the 53rd mayor of Jackson.

First elected in 2017, Lumumba is on his second term as mayor after winning reelection with 69% of the vote in 2021. He defeated Independent-challengers Charlotte Reeves, Les Tannehill and Shafeqah Lodree, as well as Republican-challenger Jason Wells.
