Mayor calls budget meeting for 5 p.m. Monday | News

Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr. has scheduled a budget meeting today (July 25) at 5 p.m. in the city council chambers.

If the city council shows up, it will be the first time the mayor and council members will be in the same room for almost two months. Perkins and his department heads stopped attending council meetings in early June after several contentious council meetings. Perkins now submits information to the council in writing, and council members review the information in their meeting and submit questions in writing.

The budget as prepared by Perkins and his staff calls for total revenue of $24.8 million. The current budget is $19.4 million and the 2020-2021 budget was $17.5 million, according to a draft of the budget posted on the city’s Facebook page.
