MANSFIELD, La. – Mansfield Mayor Thomas Jones, 62, was arrested on a DWI charge early Saturday morning during a traffic stop.
“It’s a personal legal matter now. It has nothing to do with the operation of the city. I trust in the judicial system, and we’ll litigate it in court,” Jones said in a statement to KTBS.
State police initially stopped Jones for a traffic violation in Mansfield.
In addition to DWI, Jones was charged with improper lane use.
He was arrested around 2:30 a.m. He has since bonded out of the DeSoto Detention Center with his bond amount set as $3,227.
Jones is in his first term as mayor.
