Manchester, NH mayor gives first ‘State of the City’ address

Manchester’s mayor said he is already implementing changes to deal with the city’s homelessness problems. Mayor Jay Ruais delivered his first State of the City address Wednesday to the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. Ruais said since taking office in January, the city has already received more than $1.5 million in grants for affordable housing projects and Manchester will take part in a nationwide anti-stigma initiative. “We didn’t get into this problem overnight and we’re not going to get out of it overnight. It will take time. There may be some setbacks, but I am committed to making a difference in the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness, as well as improving our city for residents, businesses and visitors alike,” Ruais said. In the future, Ruais said he hopes to strengthen ordinances on camping, sleeping or lying on city streets and push the state to create a system to license recovery facilities.
