Stephens City Town Council last week accepted the resignation of Ronald Bowers, who has been a council member since the early 1990s, and appointed a current Planning Commission member to serve the remainder of his term.
Bowers is resigning because of health reasons. After accepting his resignation, the council unanimously voted to appoint Brian Woodruff, a member of the Stephens City Planning Commission, to the seven-member council. Woodruff will see out the last year of Bowers’ term, which expires in December of 2024.
Bowers was elected to the council in the early 1990s, Town Manager Mike Majher said.
“Ron definitely will be missed on the council,” said Stephens City Mayor Mike Diaz. “His extensive knowledge on the town through the years has been indispensable and positioned Stephens City where it’s at right now.”
Bowers is a retired safety and liability director for the Shockey Companies.
“Ron will continue to serve the Town of Stephens City in other capacities and that will allow him to focus on his health,” Diaz said.
The Star reported in 2021 that Woodruff is employed as a supervisor of network operations for Verizon Communications in Leesburg.
“He’s been very informed and active on planning commission, and he’s going to be a very valuable council member going forward,” Diaz said of Woodruff.
