Letter: Thanks, Mayor Bronson – Anchorage Daily News

I’m not sure if anyone else has thanked our mayor for what I see as a very logical decision in the time of an urgent need.

The city of Anchorage cannot function if its arterial streets are plugged with snow and stalled vehicles. There’s no access for freight, postal or emergency vehicles, which leaves all of us vulnerable. If the state cannot maintain our thoroughfares on an urgent basis, then the deployment of available municipal snow removal equipment was entirely logical to ease the crisis.

Secondary streets are exactly that — they’re secondary to the arterials in terms of a functioning transportation grid. Cleared neighborhood roads leading to plugged arterials only exacerbates the situation with stranded motorists and vehicles, further impeding snow removal efforts.

Thank you, Mayor Bronson, and Happy New Year.
