LEWISTON — Lee Clement, Ward 6 councilor, has announced his candidacy for reelection to a third term representing the city’s largest ward.

Clement is a law enforcement and public safety executive with over 50 years of experience in municipal and county government. A campaign announcement said he is running on “his record of transparency, integrity and common-sense constituent service, the trademark of his elected service to date.”

Clement has served as chairman of the Finance Committee, and has served on the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments, the Lewiston Loan Qualification Committee, the Maine Municipal Association’s Legislative Policy Committee and the Androscoggin County Budget Committee.

“Clement believes Lewiston needs to continue strong, common-sense fiscal management in order to provide needed services in a cost-effective manner,” the announcement said.

During the current term, Clement has supported zoning and code changes, advocated for services and housing for seniors, and this year served as the council representative negotiating the first agreement to solidify the provision of Emergency Medical Services for Lewiston.

“Clement has been a champion for improving Lewiston’s public safety services, to include an upgraded police headquarters and construction of needed fire department substations,” the announcement added.

In addition to his elected service, Clement has been active in the Masons and the Kora Temple Shriners, and is a sportsman. He’s a former director of the Major Waldron Sportsman’s Association in New Hampshire, a current member of the Androscoggin County Fish and Game Association, and is a volunteer range safety officer for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.

“Endeavoring to make Lewiston a better and safer place, Clement looks forward to meeting constituents, hearing their concerns , and discussing how to move this agenda forward,” the announcement said.
