Latest update on state convention officer nominations | #elections | #alabama

A second nomination for second vice president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention was announced today (Oct. 26).

Ryan Whitley

Ryan Whitley, founding pastor of CrossPoint Church in Trussville, will be nominated by Buddy Gray, longtime pastor of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Hoover.

Whitley is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and received a doctor of ministry degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University.

“Ryan is a leader among leaders and a committed disciple maker,” Gray said. “He has led missions teams all over the world and has a son and daughter-in-law who are planting a church in Germany.

“Ryan knows what it is like to pastor established churches, such as his previous pastorate at First Baptist Church Center Point, and he knows what it is like to pastor and plant a new church like CrossPoint.

“I love Ryan Whitley,” Gray added. “He is an encourager of Alabama Baptists and pastors. He’s a good friend and a good brother. I’ve gone to China with him three times, also to Malaysia. He’s the real deal wherever he goes. He’d be a great asset to serve Alabama Baptists.”

State convention officer elections will take place during the Nov. 14–15 state convention annual meeting, to be held this year at First Baptist Church Montgomery.

Greg Corbin

Also being nominated for second vice president is Greg Corbin, pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church in Birmingham and immediate past chair of the State Board of Missions. Corbin is being nominated by Mat Alexander, pastor of First Baptist Church Gadsden.
