Larry Yates announces candidacy for Ocean City council | #citycouncil


Ocean City, Md- One long time Ocean City resident made a surprise announcement that he will be running for the Ocean City council in November.

Larry Yates has been a full time resident of the resort town since 2001, and prior to moving to Ocean City he held a career of public service.

Starting his career as a police officer in 1968 with Maryland State Police/Rockville Police, Larry worked hard and rose through the ranks over 25 years of police work where he retired as deputy chief of the Rockville police department.

After moving to Ocean City he continued to work in public safety, working part time with the towns fire marshal’s office as the bonfire compliance inspector.

Yates spoke to us about why he wants to run for the position: “I can’t sit still. I enjoy helping the community and the town that we live in… My parents raised me to be involved and help people and I’ve always been a helper my entire career.”

When asked about what his platform would be, Yates emphasized that public safety will always be a top priority for him: “I am a big supporter and I fight for increased public safety, training, and accountability, and I want to ensure a dedicated team effort of our police and fire departments…”

In addition to focusing on public safety, Yates says that efforts need to continue to support the tourism industry in the town. Making sure that OC continues to be a family friendly destination for those on vacation.
