Lanigan Sworn In as New Mayor of Rome | News




ROME, NY — A new chapter in Rome politics began Saturday, with the swearing in of new Rome mayor Jeffrey Lanigan, and the Rome common council.

The swearing in ceremonies took place at the Rome Capital Theatre.

With his wife Melissa, and son Connor at his side, Lanigan was sworn in by Rome City Court Judge Elect, the Honorable Stephanie Viscelli. The new mayor takes over for Jacqueline Izzo, who served as mayor of Rome for two terms.

Mayor Lanigan told a large crowd of his supporters at the swearing in ceremony, that he is looking forward to working with the common council to make Rome a better place for everyone.

“Today marks an excellent beginning of our collective efforts, and I am optimistic about the positive impact we can make to achieve, by working hand in hand. I am grateful for the trust and support of the community, and I am confident, that through our shared commitment and collaboration, we can navigate challenges, implement positive changes, and create a stronger more vibrant community for all”.

Mayor Lanigan’s first day in office will be Monday, January 1.
