L.A. Times endorses local pastor for Council District 10 with deep connection to convicted felon Mark Ridley-Thomas | #citycouncil

The Los Angeles Times has made their “endorsement” for Los Angeles City Council District 10 that bypasses incumbent Heather Hutt, Asm. Reggie Jones-Sawyer, Grace Yoo and Aura Vasquez in favor of a pastor of a local church.

Their choice to endorse Eddie Anderson SCREAMS the involvement of the now convicted former councilman for the district, Mark Ridley-Thomas (MRT).

Anderson supported MRT in 2020 calling him “a moral leader with moral vision” in a video titled “Why Pastor Eddie supports Mark Ridley-Thomas for Los Angeles City Council”.

His endorsement came after it became public knowledge MRT was facing federal scrutiny for a campaign donation made from his campaign coffers to USC.

Anderson reached out to 2UrbanGirls and documented his long history of working in the community and referenced this LA Times article as proof he received the endorsement on his own merit and not because of the former politician.

“I’ve worked with every candidate in the race through my church and most of the Black elected leaders and community leaders carry our events that benefit and uplift community,” said Anderson.

Anderson, 33, is the senior pastor at the McCarty Memorial Christian Church in West Adams.

According to The Times, Anderson was “hired in 2016 to bring new energy and members to the aging congregation [and] he’s done that by focusing on social justice issues, such as police reform, and creating community programs that offer job training, after-school activities and urban farming.”

The Los Angeles Times endorsement team slammed Hutt for “not having a vision” for the district, and said Jones-Sawyer’s “proposals to improve city government tend to look backward rather than forward”.

The two other candidates, attorney Grace Yoo and environmental consultant Aura Vasquez, ran for the seat in 2020. Both have served as city commissioners and have experience in making change in City Hall. Yoo was part of a lawsuit that stopped the city from cutting down mature trees during sidewalk repairs. Vasquez helped push the Department of Water and Power to move faster toward 100% renewable energy.

Endorsement: Eddie Anderson for Los Angeles City Council District 10

But the LAT Editorial Board said all of the above doesn’t match “Anderson’s vision and on-the-ground community experience. He is the candidate who has the best chance of bringing people together to confront the challenges of the moment and work together for a better district and city.”

Is it Anderson’s vision or Mark Ridley-Thomas’ vision they’re referring to?

This endorsement REEKS of MRT’s involvement and further erodes the credibility of the Los Angeles Times to provide unbiased news to whatever readers they have left.

This is some BULLSH**!
