Kathie Tovo enters race for Austin Mayor for 2024 election | #citycouncil

Kathie Tovo, who served for more than a decade on the Austin City Council, announced Thursday she is running for Mayor.

Tovo served first as an at-large City Council member, then as District 9 City Council member. In 2022, she teased a run for Mayor, but ultimately decided against it.

“As a Council Member, I supported community-led policy and helped give a voice for progressive policies that would benefit all of us, not just those who want to use the City to make a profit,” Tovo said in a news release. “This campaign will be about engaging with Austinites throughout the city to craft a vision where every Austinite has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.”

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson has not announced if he is running for reelection.

The election is on Nov. 5.
