Joe Cobb announces 2024 candidacy for Roanoke City mayor


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Vice Mayor Joe Cobb has officially announced he will be running for Mayor of the City of Roanoke.

Vice Mayor Cobb is hoping to succeed Mayor Sherman Lea, who said that he will not be run for re-election on Dec. 20.

Cobb has been the city’s vice mayor since July of 2018. He has also served as the Chair on both the city’s Council of Community Services Board of Directors and the City of Roanoke Gun Violence Prevention Commission.

The public is welcome to attend Vice Mayor Cobb’s public announcement for his candidacy on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the train station on South Jefferson Street at 6 p.m.
