In California, Sacramento’s ‘Reagan Mansion’ to List for Close to $5 Million



A historic home in Sacramento, California, that was rented by then-Gov. Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy, in the 1960s and ’70s is set to hit the market for $4.995 million.

The white-brick English Tudor-style home, built in 1929, is in a coveted Sacramento neighborhood known as “The Fab 40s,”’ and was completely restored by its current owners in 2001, according to Kim Pacini-Hauch of RE/MAX, who has the listing.

“It really retains its original splendor but updated with current amenities,” Ms. Pacini-Hauch told Mansion Global. “It’s on 45th Street, which is the most coveted street in the neighborhood. And this house is the grande dame.”

At close to 7,000 square feet and described in marketing materials as a three to four bedroom, the home sits on a half-acre and is surrounded by manicured English gardens. The property’s extensive outdoor space includes multiple seating areas, a fountain, a firepit and a spacious brick patio with seating and an outdoor kitchen, according to listing photos. A covered indoor-outdoor patio opens into the outdoor kitchen and entertaining areas, as well. 

The home itself has a gracious two-story entrance hall framed by a dramatic staircase. 

“This house has the grandest entrance, and that hall really served as a ballroom for entertainment,” Ms. Pacini-Hauch said. “And the living room has four sets of French doors front to back through private verandas.”

The Reagans lived in the residence between 1967 and 1975, the years the future U.S. president and former Hollywood star was California’s governor. The home last sold in 2000 for $1.76 million, records show.

The home includes a number of seating and entertaining areas, many of which open onto the outdoor space and retain original details including fireplaces and mantels. A library and den with built-in wooden bookshelves has bay windows looking out onto the gardens, and a small office and sunroom on the main level is surrounded by windows on three sides, with French doors leading into the yard.

Living quarters on the upper level include a two-room primary suite with en-suite bathroom, according to marketing materials. A full chef’s kitchen includes multiple kitchen islands with seating, photos show. The home also has a full basement that’s been outfitted with a wine cellar, media and game room, a full bar, a full bath and a second laundry room.

The seller is Susan Savage, owner of minor league baseball team the Sacramento River Cats, according to records on PropertyShark. Ms. Savage was not available for comment.
