Horace City Council member to face challenger in recall election – InForum | #citycouncil

HORACE, N.D. — Horace City Council member Stephanie Landstrom will face off against challenger Arlin Fischer in a recall election Aug. 15.

Fischer gathered the required number of signatures and completed the paperwork to be placed on the recall election ballot. The election will be overseen by the Cass County Election Commission, according to a press release from the city of Horace.

The incoming challenger led the recall effort of Landstrom last month, noting the council member has shown an inconsistent voting record during her 10 months on the council.

Landstrom, however, says the recall stems from a specific January vote when she and other council members voted

to pause the city’s two-year tax abatement program

that gives buyers of new homes a two-year property tax break.

Realtors

pleaded with the council to keep it,

saying the council’s decisions resulted in dozens of new home buyers pulling out of Horace.

Fisher, a Realtor for Park Co. Realtors, admits the abatement vote played a part in the petition, but said it isn’t the whole reason.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
