Historic Russellville restaurant catches fire overnight

Police said East main street is back open and traffic can resume normally. If you plan on traveling on east main, please be observant of your surroundings so we do not cause traffic accidents.

An overnight fire has left a historic Russellville restaurant destroyed.

According to a Facebook post by the Russellville Police Department, due to the fire at the Old South Restaurant, East Main Street will be closed to traffic from Knoxville Ave to Burger King.

Police said they expect traffic to be closed most of the morning and ask those traveling to find an alternate route.

The Restaurant’s Facebook page released a statement regarding the incident.

“As some of you already know, The Old South had a moment last night. We would like to thank all the firefighters and first responders who fought so hard to put it out,” the post said. “We would also like to thank the Mayor who came out to be with us. We will miss seeing you guys everyday and serving our community! We will keep you posted on what’s happening as we find out! Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.”

Authorities said an update will be provided when the roadway is reopened.
