Hastings mayor candidate profile: Shawn Hartmann

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – The City of Hastings will see a new mayor come 2025.

Corey Stutte confirmed in January that he will not seek a third term.

The last day to file to run was Friday, March 1, and five candidates put their names on the ballot.

Among the five candidates is city council member Shawn Hartmann.

Hartmann is a long time Hastings resident and president of Hastings HVAC. He said if elected, he would address the residents’ wants and needs.

“We could attract some more retail options and restaurants that people keep asking for but on the other hand I think we need to have more staff and more employees before we get to that point,” Hartmann said. “So, housing would hopefully increase if I was mayor. I would try to do the things we have been doing and explore other opportunities as well.”

Hartmann has served on city council since 2020 and said the experience has prepared him to be mayor.

“I think from being on city council and learning what I learned while being on city council, this is the next logical step for me. I believe I’m very qualified, I’m a natural born leader,” Hartmann said.

Other candidates include Rodney Holling, Bill Hitesman, Jacque Cranson, and Jay Beckby.

All candidates will face off in the May primary, with two people advancing to the general election in November.
