Hale named Cambridge Springs mayor | News

CAMBRIDGE SPRINGS — After more than 20 years, Cambridge Springs has a new mayor.

During Cambridge Springs Borough Council’s reorganizational meeting on Tuesday, members appointed Delores Hale as mayor. Hale was appointed to council in February 2005, so she is beginning her 20th year.

Jeremy Ball was named deputy mayor. Ball began serving on council on Jan. 1, 2022. He is co-owner of Riverside Golf.

Hale replaces Randy Gorske, who served as mayor for 22 years.

Gorske decided not to continue as mayor.

“Twenty-two years has gone by quickly, but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it,” he said. “It is with mixed feelings that I decided not to seek reappointment.”

Hale, 66, is retired from Byham’s Insurance in Meadville. She and her husband, Randy, have lived in the borough for 28 years. They are the parents of three sons and have nine grandchildren. Darren and his wife, Lori, have four children; Zack and his wife, Sarah, have two children; and Mike and his wife, Stephanie, have three children.

Hale served as deputy mayor under Gorske for several years, so keeping a pulse on the community will not be new to her.

“I have some big shoes to fill after Randy Gorske being mayor for 22 years,” Hale said. “I look forward to seeing improvements to our community.”

Gorske has complete confidence in Hale as mayor and Ball as deputy mayor.

“I think both will serve the community well,” he said.

Also during the meeting, council reappointed Alan Shaddinger as borough solicitor, Greenman-Petersen Inc. as engineers, and Mercer County State Bank as depositor.

Council set the following dates and time for committee meetings: administration and finance — first Tuesday of the month, 9 a.m.; police — first Tuesday of the month, 4 p.m.; public works — second Monday of the month, 9 a.m.; and land use — second Tuesday of the month, 3:30 p.m.

Borough Manager Sandy Pude said she has applied for a grant for replacement of fluoride equipment to the PA Coalition for Oral Health. The grant funds would be used to replace the fluoride meter, testing equipment and a pump and to purchase fluoride. In 2021, the borough was awarded a grant in the amount of $2,945.23 for supplies.

Council also approved paying bills from the general fund in the amount of $5,748.86 and the water fund in the amount of $6,641.88.

Council meets again Jan. 15 at 7 p.m.
