LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders activated Arkansas National Guard winter weather support teams around the state on Sunday to support Arkansas State Police.

ARNG winter weather teams will provide support in all 12 ASP Troop regions, ARNG said in a press release.

“It’s missions like these that our all-volunteer force of the Arkansas National Guard is built to support,” said Maj. Gen. Jonathan Stubbs, Arkansas’ adjutant general. “We’re at our best when we get to extend the helping hand to our citizens. We’re always ready, always there, when our state needs us.”

Nine ASP Troops (Troops B, C, E, F, G, H, I, J, and K) will be supported by two ARNG winter weather truck teams. Three (Troops A, D, and L) will be supported by four winter weather truck teams.

Each team consists of four truck operators and a supervisor for a total of five personnel per team. Teams will support ASP around the clock with each team working 12-hour shifts until they are no longer needed.

According to an ARNG press release, teams are not authorized to recover privately owned or commercial vehicles. However, if the need arises, teams are permitted to recover first responder emergency vehicles and transport stranded motorists to safety.
