The governor said the orders are in anticipation of severe winter weather


According to a press release, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders held a meeting with Major General Jonathan Stubbs, Adjutant General of the Arkansas National Guard, Colonel Mike Hagar, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, and A.J. Gary, Director of the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management. They discussed preparations for upcoming severe winter weather.In the release, the spokesperson for the governor said that Major General Stubbs outlined the Arkansas National Guard’s plan to provide civil support starting Sunday. They will assist state police in winter weather operations. Colonel Hagar is coordinating additional troopers on state highways and collaborating with the National Guard and Department of Transportation for road maintenance.The release said that Director Gary will activate the state emergency operations center, ensuring timely coordination of resources.Sanders also signed two executive orders, declaring a state of emergency and allocating $250,000 for emergency management costs. The second order exempts certain commercial vehicles from federal regulations during the weather crisis.The Governor expressed gratitude to emergency personnel and pledged full support for state agencies aiding Arkansans in the impending winter storm.
