Goliad mayor will face familiar challengers on May 4 | Goliad Advance-Guard


Goliad Mayor Brenda Moses will be challenged by a current councilperson and a former mayor in the May 4 election.

Councilwoman Robin Alaniz filed to run for the mayor’s office as did Trudia Preston, who served as Goliad’s mayor from 2016 to 2020.

Four candidates will be on the ballot to fill two at-large council positions up for election.

Mary Gleinser did not file for reelection. Incumbent Lydia Flores, Robert De La Garza, Diana Rubio, and Yvonne Ramirez will vie for the two council spots.

In 2016, Preston was named mayor to replace Anna Machacek after being the only candidate to file for the office.

Preston won reelection in 2018 by defeating Moses by 22 votes.

Moses was elected in 2020 over Preston and Alaniz. In 2022, Moses defeated Preston by a 222-77 margin.

Rubio and Ramirez have previously served on the city council. De La Garza previously served as sheriff of Goliad County.

Goliad ISD will be cancelling its school board elections.

Stacey Schendel did not file for reelection for Single Member District 5. Justin Youngblood was the only candidate to file for the position.

Incumbent Ekia Moya was the only candidate T file for the SMD 7 position.
