GILLETTE, Wyo. — The Energy Capital Sports Complex is about the get a facelift with the Gillette City Council authorizing a $600,000 project on Tuesday.
On Aug. 1, the council authorized spending $610,664 to provide six shade shelters at the ECSC multi-purpose fields, a new playground, and to improve a meter pit to facilitate a new future irrigation connection point, according to the City of Gillette.
Shelters to provide shade and shelter for ECSC activity participants and spectators were recommended during discussions regarding the ECSC Master Plan. The shelters are intended to improve the functionality of the fields by providing places for seating, shelter, and shade, per the city.
The new playground will be converted from an under-utilized grass area in the softball complex to provide a play pit for children ages 2-5, the city says, adding that the project intends to minimize disruption and costs by utilizing existing site features like concrete plazas and walkways as a concrete pad for shelters.
With the council’s approval, construction is expected to begin this fall and is expected to be completed by summer 2024, per the city.
