Four dead in Stone County, two investigations underway


STONE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT/KARK) – The Stone County Sheriff’s Department and Arkansas State Police are conducting two separate death investigations.

According to Arkansas State Police, around 2 p.m. Thursday, 77-year-old Shirley Watters and her son, 55-year-old James Watters, were found dead by a family member in a home in the 600 block of Northcutt Road near Mountain View.

Investigators said both had gunshot wounds.

About 8 hours later, agents were called to a second crime scene at 5474 Arkansas Highway 5, a quarter-mile from the Watters’ residence.

There, 75-year-old William Clinton Trammell and his wife, 72-year-old Sharon Trammell were found dead inside their home from apparent gunshot wounds.

According to Arkansas State Police, Stone County officials called in ASP Criminal Investigation Division to investigate.

All four bodies have been sent to the state crime lab.

According to content partner KARK, Stone County Sheriff Bonds confirmed a total of four people in two different homes are dead.

Deputies said that they are interviewing a person of interest but they are not considered a suspect at this point.

The sheriff’s department said there is not an active shooter, but they are urging people to remain in their homes and lock their doors.

No further details have been released and the investigation is still ongoing.
