Dunnellon City Council appoints new member, seeks two others | #citycouncil

DUNNELLON, Fla. (WCJB) – The vacant seat from the Dunnellon City Council has now been filled, but city council members said the search is not over for future vacant seats.

Dunnellon City Council members appointed Walter Green during their Wednesday meeting. Green is making his return after last serving as mayor of the city until resigning in 2018.

“I think that he’s really good to be up there. He seems to have a great personality,” shared resident Art Jones. “Hearing him speak up on the council, I think we have a good one.”

Green said he is overjoyed about his comeback. “It’s a welcoming experience. This is my hometown, I grew up here and I look forward to serving to the community,” stated Green.

Currently, Green is a full-time substitute teacher at Dunnellon High School.

“Service to the schools is very important to me, I’m a Dunnellon graduate, class of ‘69. Many of the children that attend the school are grandchildren of friends of mine that I graduated with and I knew in school,” shared Green. “So it ties in our community that we support our youth with everything we possibly can do.”

Warm welcome back aside, city council members need to fill two more seats following Mayor Wally Dunn and council member Juliane Mendonca’s plans to resign.

Their decision came after concerns with Form-6, a mandatory state report which requires lawmakers to disclose their finances in detail.

Dunn will serve on the board until the end of December while Mendonca is there until December 1st. The council will meet on December 13th to discuss the other vacancies.
