District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte arrested, charged with DWI | #citycouncil

An arrest of a San Antonio City Council member resembles a previous incident in the same district almost one year apart.

City of San Antonio District 10 Councilman Marc Whyte was arrested on Friday, December 29. He was traveling eastbound on the NE Loop 410 Access Road at about 11 p.m. when he was pulled over by San Antonio police. Whyte “showed signs of intoxication and was evaluated at the scene,” according to SAPD. He was then taken into custody and later charged with driving while intoxicated and was briefly booked into the Bexar County Jail, according to court records. 

The arrest is one year and a day apart from when former District 10 Councilman Clayton Perry was arrested in 2022, also with a charge of DWI. In Perry’s case, it was in connection with an alleged hit-and-run. Perry would later decide not to run for reelection, while Whyte took his seat in the previous election.

Whyte posted a $2,000 bond on Saturday, December 30, and is expecting an arraignment on January 30, 2024. Additional details for the arrest were not immeditely available. MySA reached out to Whyte’s chief of staff and SAPD for comment and additional information, but did not receive an immediate response.

A year ago, Perry was arrested on December 28, 2022, for an incident that happened on November 6 that year. An arrest affidvait and survaillence footage from that night showed Perry drank 14 alcoholic beverages in a four-hour time frame before the alleged hit-and-run crash. Additional body cam footage released by SAPD showed Perry was lying on his back in his backyard, slurring his words, and bleeding from a laceration on his head. The video also appeared to have shown Perry had soiled himself.
