Des Moines City Council weighs climate action plan | #citycouncil


The Des Moines City Council met Monday with ADAPT DSM to discuss plans to combat climate change. Extreme temperatures, drought and flooding have urged the council to create a climate action plan. The goals include having 100% carbon-free electricity citywide by 2035 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, among others. ADAPT DSM was created to make those goals a possibility.At a work session on Monday, ADAPT DSM laid out a concise plan on how to tackle those goals. Some council members raised concerns about cost. Sustainability Program Manager Jeremy Caron says he’s heard the concerns of the community, but he’s confident the plan is achievable.A city council vote will take place in late November or early December.
