The biggest issue facing the Willmar City Council regarding the senior apartment project proposed for Swansson Field Recreational Complex is the possible threat posed by the project to the Willmar Municipal Utilities southwest well field. All other issues are secondary.
I have great respect for the Willmar Municipal Utilities as they provide reliable electrical power and water supplies for city residents. The Utilities has smart employees. These people know what they are talking about.
If they think this apartment project could have detrimental effects on the well field, then it behooves council members to take their advice. There is no need for further discussion and certainly no need to waste taxpayer dollars on a consultant’s study. We have own experts. Listen to them.
The council must void the purchase agreement with the developer for this apartment project and take steps to preserve and protect this important water source for current and future users.
