Danilo Lacuna, former Manila vice-mayor, passes away


Former Manila Vice Mayor Danilo Lacuna has died at the age of 85.

His daughter, incumbent Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, made the announcement on Sunday morning, August 13, 2023.

Writing on Facebook, Honey shared, “Our beloved Daddy Danny joined his creator early this morning, August 13, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.”

She paid tribute to her dad by describing him as, “A man of great service and compassion.

“Danny touched many, creating life which spans further than just his years and into the hearts of us all where he will remain forever.”

LONG YEARS OF SERVICE

Danilo was a constant fixture in the local government of Manila.

He came to power in 1968 as a city councilor, a role he assumed until 1975.

Danilo was first elected vice mayor in 1970. He would take on the same position from 1988 to 1992, and 1998 to 2007.

His daughter Honey, whose real name is Maria Sheilah, would follow in his footsteps by winning the vice mayor race in 2016, with former actor and ex-President Joseph “Erap” Estrada serving as mayor.

Honey was reelected in 2019, this time with Isko Moreno, also an actor, as the mayor.

Honey won in the 2022 elections to become the first female mayor of the City of Manila.
