Damico seeking office of Dunkirk mayor | News, Sports, Jobs

Dave Damico

Dave “Chico” Damico has announced his candidacy for mayor of Dunkirk. Damico has received the Republican and Conservative party endorsements.

As the current Councilman-at-Large, Damico has had time to observe and learn about city operations from the inside, following over 11 years serving on the school board. “Communication between the mayor and council is imperative to making maximum progress and improving productivity. Mayor (Wilfred) Rosas has accomplished some great things for Dunkirk but I wonder how much more may have been possible if he worked with the entire council. I’ve been portrayed in the newspaper as lacking in leadership and attention to detail. This is false. Mayor Rosas has had little to no communication with the Republican members of council in recent years, and he takes offense when important questions are asked. It’s been frustrating to say the least, being painted as an obstructionist when, along with other council members and the public, I’m just trying to learn what’s going on.”

Damico, a lifelong resident of Dunkirk, is a tech service Representative and Trainer with ECR International. He has held many volunteer and leadership roles over the past 30 years. As a volunteer fireman and eventual president of Daniel Anson Hose Company 3; and Dunkirk City School District Board of Education member and president, Damico has had many opportunities to learn about budgets, contract negotiations, communication, collaboration and teamwork.

“In my experience, working together is the most effective way to achieve the best results,” he said. “If elected, I look forward to working with council, department heads, city employees and residents to make Dunkirk the best it can be for all.

“I’ve had an opportunity over the past two years on council to observe what works, but also what areas need improvement. If elected, I vow to improve communication from the mayor’s office and to work with others, no matter their party affiliation, to continue moving in a positive direction.

“I especially enjoy assisting residents in solving issues within their neighborhoods and collaborating with them to implement their ideas on how to improve things within the city. We all choose to live in Dunkirk and if we work together, we can continue to improve our city.”

Damico and his wife, Marie, a social worker with the Dunkirk City School District, live in the Fourth Ward with their two Lakeshore Humane Society rescue dogs, Reign and Mia.
