Dalton City Council removes school bond issue from tonight’s meeting agenda | Local News | #citycouncil

The Dalton City Council has removed a resolution to have the Dalton Building Authority issue $13 million in bonds for Dalton Public Schools to buy school buses from the agenda for its meeting tonight.

“We looked back at the school board’s last meeting and thought that their plans were not clear,” said Mayor David Pennington. “They were talking about using some of this money for school reconfiguration and that that is something they need to take to the voters.”

The Dalton Board of Education can issue debt by asking voters to approve it through a ballot referendum or it can go through an agency such as the building authority that has the power to issue debt.

Does that mean the City Council will not authorize the building authority to issue debt in this situation?

“We will see,” Pennington said. “We want them to clarify their plans.”

The school board will meet today at noon in a called meeting in the third floor meeting room of City Hall.
