Dadeville City Council approves street rehabilitation, tables discussion of new firetruck | | #citycouncil

Freeman Drive will soon be receiving street resurfacing and rehabilitation.

According to Resolution 23-013, the City of Dadeville received funding through the Community Development Block Grant. The city then advertised and received bids for the rehabilitation and resurfacing of Freeman Drive.

The city council, through the resolution, is executing a contract with Gary Ingram Grading and Paving, Inc. for this project. All council members approved the resolution aside from councilmember Teneeshia Goodman-Johnson who was absent for the May 23 meeting.

At the end of the council meeting, Fire Chief Scott Atkins came before the council requesting approval to purchase a new firetruck from another fire department that they have been in contact with.

Councilmember Darryl Heard asked if it would be possible to fix the current truck. Chief Atkins explained fixing it up and getting the parts, based on the quote he received, could cost more than purchasing the new truck.

Councilmember Caldwell requested they table the vote until the next meeting so they can look further into the matter. Mayor Jimmy Frank Goodman asked Chief Atkins if the seller would be able to wait a couple more weeks. Chief Atkins responded that holding it off for a little bit longer could be possible.

Mayor Goodman made the motion and the council approved to table the vote to the next council meeting on June 13.

In other action, the Dadeville City Council:

  • Discussed possible requirements for Keebler park’s sign and discussed carport structures’ regulations and codes as part of councilmember Heard’s reports.

  • Held nominees for special committee for event codes for a following meeting.

  • Approved Rec Center rentals.

  • Reminded about the upcoming city designated holiday, Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.
