City of Lawton to rename auditorium after former mayor

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The City of Lawton announce it will rename its city council chambers and auditorium after former mayor Wayne Gilley.

The venue will assume the name of Wayne Gilley Auditorium at the Lawton City Council meeting on May 14 at 2 p.m.

At this meeting, the City will hold a dedication ceremony.

He oversaw the construction of a new library, police station and the Lawton Central Mall as well as the widening of Cache, Sheridan and Rogers roads. He was there when the City welcomed Goodyear Tire Company to Lawton in 1979.

The former mayor’s friends, family and community are welcome to join the dedication in his honor.
