The city council honored the “Godfather of Baseball” in south Omaha during Tuesday’s meeting.Council members approved a proclamation designating Dec. 9 as John Stella Day. “Your dad was great … he touched so many lives in south Omaha in the community of baseball,” councilmember Danny Begley said.Stella’s grandsons were there as the proclamation was read.Begley also said that Brown Park, which was renamed after Stella, is a “tribute to the life he lived.”‘He’s become a legend’: Remembering the life and legacy of south Omaha baseball coach.
