A rezoning request for an 80-acre section of the former Tomlinson College campus on North Lee Highway, where a 300-unit residential development is planned, was approved by the Cleveland City Council on Monday.
Last month, the Cleveland Municipal Planning Commission approved a request from the Church of God of Prophecy, the site’s owner, to rezone the property from residential agricultural to planned-unit development.
The city council will vote again on the ordinance when it appears on a future voting session consent agenda.
The property, located east of the former Hardwick Field airport on Cromwell Road, will contain townhomes, detached single-family homes and a clubhouse with a central amenity area.
In January, Tom Cate, of Cate Brothers Development, told the Cleveland Daily Banner he would break ground on the project 90 days after he finalized the acquisition of the property.
Cate most recently developed Parkstone Village on Westside Drive.
Tomlinson College operated from 1966 to 1992. Tennessee Christian Preparatory College leased the campus from the Church of God of Prophecy in 1997, before relocating to a new site on Stuart Road in 2020.
