BUT 2.5 MILLION EVERY YEAR YOU’RE BASICALLY MISLEADING THE TAXPAYERS WHEN YOU DO THAT. THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION ACTUALLY REDUCED. HOW MUCH MONEY IS THE CITY OF MANDEVILLE SPENDING AND WHAT IS THE FUND BALANCE THAT TOPIC GOT HEATED BETWEEN THESE TWO REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES FOR MAYOR, CLAY MADDEN AND JEFF LYONS. BUDGET. SO HE IS AGAIN SAYING THAT IF WE HAD NOT SPENT THAT MONEY, WHAT WAS THE ALTERNATIVE? MADDEN IS IS THE INCUMBENT AND JEFF LYONS HAS EXPERIENCE IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT. HE IS ACCUSING MADDEN OF NOT BEING TRANSPARENT ABOUT THE BUDGET, BUT MADDEN DEFENDS HIS SPENDING, SAYING IT WAS ALL USED FOR IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE HURRICANE IDA AND CITYWIDE PAY RAISES. SO THAT’S WHERE WE SPENT THE MONEY ON. SO HIM SAYING THAT WE’RE SPENDING TOO MUCH MONEY, HE’S AGAINST PUBLIC SAFETY. NO. WHAT IS YOUR RESPONSE TO THAT? THAT’S RIDICULOUS. AND WHAT’S RIDICULOUS IS THE FACT THAT HE’S TELLING PEOPLE THAT WE HAVE TROUBLE GETTING POLICE OFFICERS, OR WE’RE LOSING POLICE OFFICERS TO OTHER JURISDICTIONS. THE ONLY PEOPLE WE LOSE POLICE OFFICERS TO. AND IT’S A FACT IT’S BEEN THE FBI AND THE STATE POLICE. Candidates for Mandeville mayor sparred over issues ahead of the election. Incumbent Clay Madden and his challenger Jeff Lyons came in for the hot seat debate. They talked about flooding, hyper dense development, and other topics, but things got heated over the budget. Lyons is accusing Madden of not being transparent about the fund balance, while Madden says the spending is over important things like Hurricane recovery.
