Candidate in Des Moines disqualified after filing to run for both mayor and city council seat


A candidate for Des Moines mayor and for the Ward 4 seat on Des Moines City Council has been disqualified from the race.Benjamin Clarke filed to run for both mayor and the Ward 4 seat. Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald said candidates cannot run for both at the same time, citing Iowa Code.”We are in agreement with the Des Moines legal department that Mr. Clarke will not be on the Des Moines city ballot as he applied to run for both mayor and Ward IV at the same time and did not file to which one he was running for before the close of the deadline as you cannot run for both at the same time,” Fitzgerald said.

A candidate for Des Moines mayor and for the Ward 4 seat on Des Moines City Council has been disqualified from the race.
