At a special Brush City Council meeting on Dec. 21, the council approved a 15-year non-exclusive agreement with Allo Fiber. It passed with a 4-0 vote as councilor Alison Gorrell was absent and councilor Nathan Tyree arrived after the vote.
The agreement will bring fiber internet and cable (TV services) to Brush, and as Tyler Purvis, Brush Community Development Director, has said for the last month, this agreement has been a few years in the making.
“We are prepared to go,” Bob Beiersdorf, the Allo Colorado General Manager, said to the council.
Beiersdorf said the company expects “shovels in the ground” on Jan. 29.
The item was a public hearing, but no one in the audience spoke for or against it.
After approving that item, the council approved the 2024 budget. It had been delayed for a few weeks.
Joanne Gosselink, Brush Finance Director, said they finally got all the documentation back from the County Assessor Office, which was part of the delay.
After the approval of the budget, the council approved the appropriation of sums of money from various funds for the budget. The council approved the city’s 2024 mill levy, too.
Towards the end of the meeting, Scott Klinkhammer, Ward 2 councilor, read from a prepared statement about his time on the council. Klinkhammer did not win his re-election bid in November.
“I ran for council with the ideas of helping to bring more things to the City of Brush to help it grow and to keep current residents here,” Klinkhammer said.
He stated he’s glad more ideas of how to grow the community are being accepted and he hopes that trend continues.
“I challenge the City of Brush to start a new trend where we all protect each other, help each other and truly be united instead of being separated by politics,” he said.
