Bristow High School, mayor team up for community park project | News

BRISTOW, Okla. — Bristow High School and Bristow Mayor Kris Wyatt have teamed up for a community park project.

The Toni Goodwin Park is a fairly new park in Bristow and Mayor Wyatt wanted to add some picnic tables.

The Bristow Career Readiness and Life Skills Class took on that challenge.

FOX23 spoke with Forrest Brandt who is the exceptional student services teacher at Bristow High School working with students with special needs.

He said they have been building life skills and working on several outdoor projects.

Brandt said once Wyatt heard what they were working on, she asked if they wanted to contribute a pair of park tables to the project.

“We were actually looking for activities that were hands-on so majoring, cutting and building some of the construction trades for students, that was what we wanted. This fit exactly what we were doing and wanting to do with our life skills classes,” Brandt said.

Brandt described the importance of the project.

“To have students that can participate in the community and see what they’re doing in the classroom actually makes a difference in the parks and the community, so that’s really exciting,” Brandt said.

Brandt said the students are most excited about a plaque that will be at the park that says the name of the class and the year they finished the tables.

The mayor will be hosting a lunch at the park on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. so the students and community can officially enjoy the new park additions.
