Boston’s new City Council to take oath of office on New Year’s Day
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will administer the oath of office to new and returning members of the City Council on New Year’s Day. Ruthzee Louijeune, Erin Murphy, Julia Mejia and Henry Santana will serve as City Councilors at Large, after finishing in the top four positions in the 2023 election. Santana is new to the Council.John Fitzgerald will replace Frank Baker as the councilor for District 3, Enrique Pepen will replace Ricardo Arroyo in District 5 and Benjamin Jacob Weber will take over as the representative for District 6.Six of the district councilors will return to their seats: Gabriela Gigi Coletta, District 1; Ed Flynn, District 2; Brian Worrell, District 4; Tania Fernandes Anderson, District 7; Sharon Durkan, District 8; Liz Breadon, District 9.Also Monday, the new City Council will need to elect a president. Flynn served in that role since 2022 but Louijeune indicated in November that she had enough support from other members to seize the job in the new term.
