The mayor of Atlantic City will face aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other charges in New Jersey after he and his wife were both accused of physically and emotionally abusing their teenage daughter, one month after their home was searched in an investigation by state child welfare authorities.

Mayor Marty Small and his wife, La’Quetta Small, were charged on Monday by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, multiple outlets reported, and will be summoned to court at a later date to face the charges.
The pair allegedly abused their daughter “on multiple occasions” in December 2023 and January 2024, including one incident that saw Marty Small, 50, hit his daughter in the head with a broom until she passed out.
LaQuetta Small, 47, is accused of punching her daughter and dragging her by her hair.
Small is charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, making terroristic threats, aggravated assault and simple assault; La’Quetta Small is charged with three counts of simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
