Senate bill 66 was proposed last week and would require a valid ID to view pornographic material in the state. “It’s a bill that we are trying to protect our children from harmful material online,” Republican Sen. Tyler Dees said. The bill would enforce damages onto websites that did not enforce ID checks. “What this does is creates an age verification process that requires harmful material to make sure that they are intensifying their age verification process before allowing access to the material,” Dees said. Revealing your ID to certain websites could lead to issues like identity theft. “By identifying yourself you open yourself for problems,” Apollo IT Services owner Eyal Gallico said. The bill is headed to the insurance and commerce committee, and will head to the senate floor if approved. “I believe we have the votes to do that,” Dees said.
