Arkansas National Guard to be deployed to southern border


Members of the Arkansas National Guard will go to the border between the U.S. and Mexico, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders ordered Thursday.About 80 guardsmen will help the Texas National Guard with border control efforts from July 1 to July 31, according to a news release from the governor’s office.They will assist with finding and tracking people at the border.The Arkansas National Guard’s soldiers and airmen have been providing similar help to combatant commanders and local law enforcement for years, according to the release.”President Biden’s failure at our southern border puts the entire country at risk,” the news release quotes Sanders as saying.The release cites illegal immigration, drug cartels and human trafficking as issues.Title 42, a pandemic-era set of emergency health restrictions on immigration, expired in May. The US Border Patrol, whose chief announced his retirement Wednesday, implemented a new set of restrictions in response.There was a steep decline in people crossing the border illegally after Title 42 ended.
