Arkansas lawmakers reflect on the 79th anniversary of D-Day

Seventy-nine years ago today, during World War II, allied forces breached beach landings in Normandy, and Arkansas lawmakers are giving their remarks on the anniversary.

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson and current Republican presidential candidate said that we remember the sacrifice of so many.

“On this 79th Anniversary of D-Day, we remember the sacrifice of so many. When faced by seemingly insurmountable challenges, Americans always adapt & overcome to achieve what others couldn’t. Be proud to be American, remember the fallen, and celebrate the freedom they fought for.”

Sen. John Boozman posted a video where he gives his remarks about the 79th anniversary.

Sen. Boozman said that the anniversary reminded him of the greatest generations courage and sacrifice.

“As the son of a WWII veteran, the anniversary of DDay always reminds me of the Greatest Generation’s courage and sacrifice. The tragedy and triumph were brought home even more for me when I visited Normandy on the 75th anniversary several years ago.”

Re. Steve Womack said that today we remember the allied troops who fought.

“Today we remember the Allied troops who fought on DDay. May we never forget their bravery and sacrifices to our great nation. Their contributions marked the beginning of the end of World War II.”

Rep. Bruce Westerman took to Twitter to say may we always remember the brave Americans.

“Seventy-nine years ago, our troops stormed the beaches of Normandy and changed the tide of WWII. May we always remember the patriotism of these brave Americans, thousands of whom sacrificed their lives to lay the foundations of Allied victory on the Western Front.”

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin said that he has had the honor to visit the beaches that the troops were on 79 years ago.

“It’s been 79 years since American servicemen led the Allied assault on the beaches of Normandy. I’ve had the honor of visiting those beaches, & it is truly hallowed ground. May we never forget the sacrifice so many Americans made to fight tyranny & preserve our freedom.”

Tom Cotton said “On this day in 1944, hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers stormed the beaches of France and turned the tide of WWII. Their heroic effort reminds us of the price of freedom and our nation’s strength when united in a common cause.”

Rep. French Hill said back in 2017 he visited the Normandy American Cemetery to honor those who fought for freedom.

“79 years ago today, the beaches of Normandy were stormed by brave Allied troops. I visited the Normandy American Cemetery in 2017 to honor those who gave it all to fight for freedom that day. We will always remember their heroism and sacrifice on DDay.”
