Arkansas governor, education secretary to talk Arkansas LEARNS at JBU Monday morning


Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Secretary of Education Jacob Oliva will host a town hall in Siloam Springs to discuss the LEARNS Act at 11 a.m. on Monday morning. Parts of the LEARNS Act have already started to be put into place in some schools in Arkansas. Last week, Attorney General Tim Griffin approved a referendum aimed to strike down the act by the group known as “CAPES,” or Citizens for Arkansas Public Education and Students. The group will have to get nearly 55,000 signatures to get the LEARNS Act on the ballot in November 2024. The LEARNS Act is also facing a lawsuit out of Pulaski County that was filed in early May.The lawsuit claims that the general assembly did not pass the law and emergency clause correctly in the legislature. As a result of the lawsuit, the act was put on hold until June 20, when there is a hearing scheduled.
