Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders late Friday called for a convention to fill the Republican nominee vacancy in House District 66, which includes portions of Pulaski County.
Republican Nick Priest announced on March 8 that he was withdrawing from the race for health reasons. Priest was unopposed in the March 5 primary.
The House District 66 seat is currently held by Jacksonville Democrat Rep. Mark Perry, who’s serving his sixth term in the House and is seeking reelection.
On Friday, Sanders called for a special convention of delegates of Pulaski County to be held no later than April 19 for the purpose of filling the vacancy. The filing period will last from noon on April 8 through noon on April 28.
Upon approval by the county party committee, a certificate of nomination must be provided to the Arkansas Secretary of State and the Pulaski County Election Commission no later than April 28.
