LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that the former Arkansas State Highway Commissioner has died.
Ron Harrod was from Warren and passed away Thursday, June 8.
In 1983 Harrod was appointed to the Arkansas State Commission by then-Gov. Bill Clinton.
ARDOT said that Harrod was able to undertake 3,200 highway projects at a cost of more than $2 billion.
This created jobs and strengthened Arkansas’ economy.
There were more than 9,000 miles of roads and 900 bridges that were eight replaced, constructed, or improved during Harrod’s term.
Harrod served on the commission from 1983 to 1993 and was known to work diligently for the betterment of Arkansas highways, according to ARDOT.
“Commissioner Harrod selflessly dedicated a decade of his life to improving Arkansas’ highways and bridges,” said ARDOT Director Lorie Tudor. “We are immensely grateful for his service to our state and the legacy he left behind.”
ARDOT said the family will have a private celebration of his life at a later date.
