JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Arkansas National Guard soldiers across the Natural State are hitting the icy roads to help stranded motorists amid winter weather conditions.
A crew of five guardsmen met at Arkansas State Police Headquarters, Troop C, on Monday, Jan. 15, before going to work.
Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders activated winter support teams to help out Arkansas State Police.
The 87th Troop Command arrived in two winter weather-ready trucks with heavy-duty tires and tow straps.
Arkansas State National Guard 2nd Lt. Partick Moore spoke with K8 News about the mission. He said no matter how cold it is, they’re here to make everyone’s lives easier.
“This is kind of one of the reasons I wanted to join the guard,” Moore said. “I love just being able to help people, especially when it’s so cold.”
The crew left the station to patrol the roads and assist ASP with abandoned vehicles and car accidents.
Moore said he wants to make sure people are staying warm and safe.
“Nobody ever prepares for this; we’re just making sure everybody gets to work and gets home safe,” he added.
