Andrew Cuomo is officially waiting (very quietly) in the wings, Page Six hears.

Insiders tell us that the former governor — who has been quietly polling on his chances of being elected mayor of New York City in the event the troubled Eric Adams craps out — is “leaning towards” a run at City Hall.

Adams is not only facing historically low approval ratings, but his office is also under investigation for its ties to the Turkish government.

Now we hear Cuomo — who himself resigned in 2021, after a string of sexual harassment allegations against him (which he has consistently denied) — is ready to run should the opportunity present itself.

A Page Six spy spotted Cuomo having dinner with a veteran city pol — a once a mayoral contender — Andrew Stein at Upper East Side haunt Caravaggio.

When we called Stein about the tête-à-tête, he said only: “I think Andrew would be a really good mayor. He’s experienced, and New York really needs someone like that right now.”

He added that he was close with Cuomo’s late father, Gov. Mario Cuomo, and that he’s known Andrew since he was 14.

Last week Rosanna Scotto asked Cuomo his thoughts on running for mayor.

“We need [Adams] to do his job,” Cuomo said, adding that speculation about Hizzoner’s future can only make his job harder. “I’m flattered,” he said.

Adams has not been accused of wrongdoing in the probe, and said in a recent interview, “Let the process carry out . . . That is what’s great about our country. There is a due process system in place.”

A recent Slingshot Strategies poll said that — in the event that Adams resigned — Cuomo would be the leading prospective candidate with 22% of respondents saying they pick the former governor.

Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and former Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia came in second and third.

A rep for Cuomo told us: “The Governor has made it clear he supports the mayor and there’s nothing new here.”
