The City of Dayton will be holding a municipal election in April 2023, where two city council seats will be up for grabs.
Rhea County Deputy Administrator of Elections Felicia Goodman said on Thursday that incumbents Bobby Doss and Caleb Yawn both returned valid petitions to run for office by the Jan. 19 deadline. Challenger Dennis Van Meter also returned a valid petition, Goodman said.
Municipal voters will choose among two of three candidates when they cast their ballots later this year.
City residents who are not registered to vote still have time to register ahead of the municipal election, with the voter registration deadline for the election set for Tuesday, March 21.
Election Day for the city council election is Wednesday, April 19, 2023, and early voting for that election will run from Thursday, March 30, until Friday, April 14.
