The Hamilton City Council held its last meeting of 2022 at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19 at City Hall.
Ordinance No. 9 Tax Levy had a final reading and the levy was approved, with only a relatively small increase from last year. The total levy for 2022-2023 is $685,703. This is the amount from taxes that goes toward running the city, and the rest of the annual budget comes from other sources.
The Industrial Park Sanitary Sewer Extension project original contract amount was $988,908, of which the council approved to pay about $368,238 at this time. This is to run city sewer from where it currently ends east of the city out to the industrial park. Other sources being used to pay the contract amount include two grants and ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) monies.
Other expenditures that were approved included:
- Adding firemen to the Air Evac insurance program, which currently costs $65 per year per individual;
- A bid from C.C.C. out of Keokuk for $7840 for repairs to the Hamilton Public Library;
- $4,998 for renovation of the city hall lobby to increase security, to include a new door and frame and redoing the pass-through window area;
It was reported that repairs and improvements are ongoing at the Hamilton Community Center, to include upgrades to the electrical system and the bathrooms.
One building permit was approved for the installation of solar panels on the roof of a residence.
The council approved sending Police Chief Boley and Officer Jamerson to the ILEAS (Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System) Conference in March. (The website ileas.org states the ILEAS mission: “We strive to meet the needs of law enforcement throughout the state of Illinois in matters of mutual aid, emergency response, and the combining of resources for public safety.”) Chief Boley noted that the Hamilton Police Department had received 188 calls during November.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:32 p.m. The next meeting will be at city hall at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2.
